I got a ranger tome to drop for me, and an elite mesmer one. That's it. I've only witnessed tomes drop for others about 3 times (and FYI I do very little HM, but that still seems like too little for someone doing all the Ascalon missions a few times).

The elite tomes should either only drop a LITTLE more often, or be left alone. Admittedly they have extreme value (like if you want to cap an impossible-to-cap-elite that took a character a week to capture, and don't want to do it again for another character). Normal skill tomes should drop more often, so HM's rewards seem a bit more apparent and cut down on all those platinums spent at the skill trader. (I envy those who DIDN'T end up buying a ton of skills on their main early in the game and now have to cope with 1k for skills they will actually use)

This is one update I hope we NEVER see. I get way too many tomes as it is. I wouldnt mind an Elite Tome increase but reduce the non elites.

Then tome farmers will be easily getting 4 max skill hunter titles, without having to hunt a single skill!

In the 3-4+ weeks since HM was introduced, I have picked up...

4 normal warrior tomes,
1 elite ele tome,
1 normal elite ele tome,
1 elite assassin tome,
1 normal monk tome,
1 elite monk tome,

...im sure I have around 2 more, but I cant remember what they are. That is in just 3 or 4 weeks. And you think the drop rate is bad?

I would have to disagree!

From a few chests (40-50) and normal killing i got 4-5 elite tomes (all from chests) and +20 normal tomes from random killing. So the drop rate is quite fine, everyone wants everything to be so easy.
But adding a tometrader could be nice! (maybe just add it to the runetrader)

Ps!
I bet you will see a tripple tome weekend event soon.

Doing HM for some weeks with my guildies, elite tomes are raining.
In addition, the prices are fair.
Why? Because tomes allow you to save what is the most precious feature in GW: time.
You will be able to get an Elite without spending 2 weeks to get a PVE character through a long campaign (for example, Xinrae's weapon).
Time is money, and in these particular cases, this is a lot of time gained, so it costs a lot.

I was gonna say yes but then realized that I have 15 warr tomes, 10 ele, 8necro and a mix bag between ranger & monk and a hand full of elite tomes. The drop rate is ok as it is and I'm not selling any of them. I'm keeping them for the rainny day.

As soon as someone can't afford them or doesn't get it dropped fairly often, they want the drops to increase.

And so what about having to solo a boss X amount of times. Solo farmers don't care. They're doing it anyway.

Anyway you can get lucky. Someone brought up about soloing Ritual Lord in HM. I grabbed my necro for the hell of it, ran it once. Elite Ritual Tome drops first and only run.

And how long have tomes been out? 1 month?
They're still a new thing of course the prices will eventually fall.
Check back with me in 1 month.

Think about this. If you're talking about drops during vanquishing .... you AREN'T exactly going for the boss(es) with the intent of getting tomes.
So I don't get why someone who is complaining about playing the game and not specifically going for tomes is wanting the drops to increase. You're playing anyway.
IF you are talking about soloing bosses, as I said above, solo farmers are still going to solo.

You think Chest Runners and solo boss farmers really care about drop rates?
Chest runners will run.
Solo farmers will solo.

So hell no they don't need to increase drop rates.
As mentioned, it's all about time and convience.

BUT ANYWAY, I agree. I was trying to buy an Elite Rit Tome for 6k+a Ssaki's Sword (still looking for the tome) and I argued for an hour with 7 different people. 1 said 12k, another said 18k (he I soon killed in the GH) and the last said 4k. I tried to buy it from the last one but he said he was jk ='s

I think that Anet either needs to increase the drop by like 15-20% and/or put in a tome trader.

oh and my entier HM career I've only gotten an elite monk and an elite mesmer tome. thats it. No non-elites, no elites..just...2...I think thats a tad bit slow since I've started soloing tons of places for about 2 weeks from 7pm-1am est.

In that hour; you could have bought a signet of capture, found out where the boss is you, gone to it and capped the elite spell.

Elite tomes are stupidly priced because people are willing to pay those prices, instead of getting off their arse and hunting down the boss instead. If you dont like the price of elite tomes, then go get the skill the old fashioned (cheaper) way and stop being lazey!

It would have cost you a grand total of 1-2k and a skill point, which are easy to come by now with 50% increased experience.

And just because you have had a low tome drop rate, that means the entire % drop rate should be increased? I've had more elite tome drops by the sounds of it in just 3-4 weeks of doing HM, and I dont even want the dang things.

Some people are luckier then others! Get used to it.

Drop rates definitely need to be fixed. Boss monsters are already rare (roughly 6 per 200 monsters?), and their drops are typically split across a party of 8. Just think, if one tome drops for every 30 bosses killed, and there's 6 per area, you would have to vanquish about 40 8-man areas to get a single elite tome.

Drop rate is fine. I'm seeing these Elite tomes drop from bosses as well as chests. Makes for a good time to go WTS in town. Yesterday, a single Locked chest dropped two Elite Warr Tomes for me (bug: that was a full pug vanquishing group in the Falls, the last member of the group to use the chest couldn't open it, apparently as 6 items had already come out of the chest). At the beginning of the weekend, I sold 7 Elite tomes, throwing in matching reg. tomes to make the sale. By the end of this weekend, I've come across 4 more, and I haven't been farming very heavily either, doing more missions, pvp and such.

For me, these Elite tomes are about the only thing I'm seeing drop regularly that can come close to financing my Lockpick purchases. If the droprate is increased, then a trader will have to be added or we'll be having to bin them as the value will go the way of most of the runes in the game (thanks to the Rune trader).

So the sides seem to be split between the people that do HM so much they are getting more tomes than they know what to do with (I mean why are you guys letting them fill up your inventory, use them already), and people that do some HM but aren't as lucky or aren't in the right areas. The funny thing is, the people complaining about having too many would have more inventory space if they just sold off some of their stock at a reasonable price.

Anyways, the guy who said that these things are consumable, hit the nail right on the head. It isn't like these items are staying in the economy after someone buys and uses them, as it would be for greens and rares. Yet these items have a drop rate comparable to greens and rares. Imagine the costs of greens if they broke (were deleted) every time you unequiped them or switched to a different weapon set.

I gander the drop rate isn't bad. I just vanquished two areas (heroes + henchmen) in hard mode (Old Ascalon, Perdition Rock) and blew five lockpicks. I ended up with quite a few golds and purples, a ranger tome (from a creature), a monk tome (from a chest) and an elite necromancer tome (from a boss). That's not a drop rate that I care to argue with. Unfortunately, of the golds and purples, I only managed to salvage two decent mods: a perfect hammer grip of fortitude and a perfect bow grip of defense.

If you dont want to pay what the community currently has them at then go out and cap the skill for 1k max. If you want to pay less then the current market price is at but dont want to go capping again then have a seperate trade rate within your alliance.

If the market price right now was 4-6k people would be complaining because they aren't at 2k. Tomes are for a convenience factor, you pay for convenience.
